Thanks for this great review. I just registered as a client to try a 3 star writer out as a test. I’m hopeful to use this for one of my personal websites for sports writing. I’m in need of 10- 500 recent sports articles a day. Even though the pricing seems affordable – for that quantity it’s a high chunk of change. Do you know any services for the type of bulk writing I need?

Hi Admin, they no longer want RFP’s .They have totally crazy assignments now that most don’t want at any price. I am only freelance there but it was steady from about May until October and then the goofy assignments started. I mean can you imagine “confessions of an F.B.I. agent” and they want a picture? Or “Out of work and overweight” also with a picture of the person, but gee you can use just their first name. I did mostly travel stuff for them on Chicago and the Southwest U.S. for their new travel section. I have a feeling with the Huffington connection they will go to writing for free like Huff Po, after all Arianna considers it an honor to get the “exposure”. Yeah, exposure really pays the rent. I would have answered this sooner but didn’t see it.

To TBWriter9: I will give TB credit you will never have a problem with money. They pay twice a month-promptly. I believe you can make a “bit” of a living writing for them. They certainly have enough articles. The work always flows in, sometimes it gets a little low, but then picks up again. As far as ratings go I think their philosophy is that some clients just want a “general article” something to work from and they make the corrections themselves. If they want an article that they can immediately use they go to a higher rating. I think for TB writers 2-4 (especially 2, and a bit 3) clients are not concerned about having perfect articles,mostly. Even though a 3 author and up are capable of submitting perfect work…Hope that helped.

I am a freelance writer that did quite a bit of writing for AOL Travel news, Gadling and others. Mostly I got $50. per 800.-1000 words. Not great but okay money. Of course as an ex-reporter and editor I turned in perfect copy. I also know SEO, how to write headlines and sub-heads because I came from the newspaper industry. I guess my point is, you get what you pay for. Just because someone loves to put words to paper and is willing to work for peanuts doesn’t mean they can write.

I write for Textbroker. It’s great even though the pay is really low if you are a 2-4 star writer. I agree with one of the commenters that said you get what you pay for. I mean, writers are getting paid $2.80 for a 400-word article. Although every writer should reread their work and make sure there are no typos, you can’t expect excellent, quality work at the 2 star level. If you want something done well, don’t be cheap. Invest in more money. That’s how it is with everything else in this world.

I was glad to stumble across this article, as I was trying to find reviews of Textbroker.com. I recently signed up as an author with them, and wanted to find out if their ‘ratings’ system was at all accurate and I wanted to find out if Textbroker.com has a decent reputation among those who use them.

Does anyone have any idea how they truly ‘rate’ the authors? There just doesn’t seem to be any consistency in the way that they rate, and furthermore, I absolutely cannot understand why they would ever take on a writer who produces work like that 2 star article you featured. I do not think this is a good move for them….I think I may (perhaps anonymously) suggest that they choose their authors with a bit more discretion….that article is horrifying. I don’t know what’s worse: that article or the co-founder of Copify writing those horrible sentences; I sincerely hope that was some sort of Spam or a joke.

If anyone has any good feedback on how they ‘rate’ their authors, and why they allow horrible 2 star writers, I would appreciate the information. Also, is it feasible to make a decent amount of money with Textbroker, if one were to work about 20 hours a week and was able to produce a large quantity (combined with quality)? Sharing past experiences would be helpful.

DebD, someone has to take the risk and trust the other really.

In short, there are no ways to be 100% certain when buying/selling content. Everything could go smoothly, the writer has their money and the webmaster has the article on their site and everyone is seemingly happy…

…then a couple of months later one of them goes rogue. The webmaster does a dispute via his credit card company or Paypal, and gets the money back. Or the content writer resells the content elsewhere, screwing the original buyer.
