For the children and grownups alike, the Central Park zoological garden allow for hours of enjoyment. The zoological garden is home to an indoor rain forest, polar bears, and a mixed bag of animals and reptiles, many on the endangered species list. It is not only educational, but a opportunity to discover some creatures that may never be seen in nature again. A must see when traveling through central park is the Alice in Wonderland bronze sculpture depicting all the beloved characters perched upon an enormous mushroom. The Mad Hatter, Cheshire cat, the white rabbit and all the additional beloved characters are gathered around Alice while she holds court. The children will be mesmerized and the grownups will feel a bit of nostalgia for their childhood. No one can leave without visiting the carousel in Central park. The carousel has the distinction of being one of the country’s largest merry-go-rounds. Fifty eight brightly colored horses and two exquisite chariots await the family or romantic couples. There’s nothing as romantic as a carousel. It takes one back to a time when life was uncomplicated, pure and innocent. A lot of youngsters these days have never experienced a ride on a carousel.

Located on the upper west side of manhattan is the Lincoln center. The Lincoln center has hosted a wide variety of events, such as the Mozart festival. It is the national leader in arts, education and community relations. With four hundred events annually, the variety is endless.The Lincoln Center complex is one of the first gathering of major cultural institutions into a centralized location in an American city. There is always some event, such an opera or ballet or a night of classical music to enjoy.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is affectionally known as The Met in New York City. The museum is located on the eastern edge of Central Park. The museum boasts more than two million works of art, all divided into nineteen separate departments. The main building of The Met is one of the world’s largest art galleries. Paintings and fantastic sculptures from nearly all of the European masters call this museum their home. Egyptian, Byzantine and Islamic art and antiquities are housed here. Greek and Roman art, African art, Asian art, the nations of the world are explored during an afternoon at The Met. The roof garden offers a view of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline.The garden features a variety of outdoor sculpture exhibitions. The Roof Garden is a popular museum spot during the spring and summer months, a lovely way to spend Friday and Saturday evenings. Nightlife in New York abounds. The Broadway Theatre district is one of the most popular tourist areas of New York City. On any given day or night a show can be seen. If you miss the Broadway show at night there are matinees. Stars from around the world are there to entertain day and night.

No visit to New York is complete without a visit to Liberty Island. There in the middle of the harbor stands a lady that has greeted visitors and immigrants to New York City for years. The Statue of Liberty is an imposing figure. Worldwide the statue of liberty is one of the most recognizable icons of the United States. There are harbor cruises offered to drink in all the sights, including the Statue of Liberty and lower manhattan.

Getting around is no problem at all. Car services, taxis and public transportation abound in New York City. taxis and limos offer the most convenient ways of getting around New York. Subways offer a quick trip to where you want to go. The subways offer the traveler a more earthy experience, some prefer not to travel underground. Some companies offer double decker bus tours that stop at different points of interest in New York.The Staten Island Ferry takes you on a tour of the New York skyline, the harbor and the Statue of Liberty without waiting in line for the Liberty excursion boats. The best part about the ferry is that it is free.

The Rockefeller Center and Times Square are two more attractions that have to be to visited.The Rockefeller Center contains 19 commercial buildings located in the center of Midtown Manhattan. This site was declared a National Historic Landmark in nineteen eighty eight. Built by the Rockefeller family, it symbolizes the modernist method of architecture. Times square is a major intersection in Manhattan at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. Restaurants and food places abound. Italian, oriental, american, french, whatever cuisine you can think of can be had at times square.

There is so much to do and see in New York City, that just a weekend will not be enough to take in all of the sights and sounds of New York. New York City is a melting pot of sights, sound smells and culture. There is much to do for the adventurer and the culture lover alike.
