Research from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid has shown that 49,000 editors left Wikipedia in the first 3 months of 2009. This is a huge rise from 2008, when only 10% of that number left in the same time period.
The research author, Felipe Ortega , said:
“If the negative trend is maintained for too much time, say one or two years, eventually the project could enter a problematic phase,”
Personally, I think Wikipedia experiencing problems would certainly be a good thing. They are ranking for too many terms on domain authority alone, when there are dozens of better resources stuck below them in the serps.
I have also never understood why so many people spend massive amounts of their own time working for free to line Jimmy Wales pockets. Perhaps some of these 49,000 people left Wikipedia to set up blogs on their specialist subjects?

You could have put it any better. However, these ex Wikipedians could still donate a portion from their new found revenue models to support Jimmy
He has a plea on Wikipedia for some time now and i think he needs more funds to keep the Project alive.
